Euro建てで収入を得ていない者にとってはアイルランドの物価は 高く感じる。最大の原因は Euroの強さ。 ちょっと調べてみると2002年1月の流通開始から 対USDで40%ぐらい 対JPYで25%ぐらいの上昇。
マクドナルドやBKのセットメニューは Euro6前後。 写真はUCDの食堂でのチキントルティヤで Euro5.20。 マクドナルドは世界中にあるので 購買力平価算定に使ったりするが、1Euro = 100JPY ぐらいが実質的な価値ではなかろうか？
ちなみにUKとIrelandではいろいろ違いもあるのだろうが、 付け合せのブロッコリーの「クタクタさ加減」をみると 「同じ穴のムジナ」というような感じがみてとれる...
「世界一」と断言するには知っている空港の数が少なすぎるが、 間違いなくトップレベルの便利さとサービスを提供してる Changi Airport。マイル稼ぎの人々は「修行」と称して安いチケットで ここまできて、空港内で一夜を明かして(宿泊費を浮かすため)翌日日本に 帰るなんてことをやる。
しかしネットが使えるし、シャワーや仮眠所、 ホテルも空港内 (immigrationの前)にある。だからコンピューターを 持ってきてここにずっと滞在して「仕事」をするてのは十分可能。 ただし食事は市内の水準から考えると大分高い。
以前はワイヤレスも無料だったが現在は有料。しかし無料で15分間使える PCやEthernetのアクセスポイント(これも無料)のある机が空港内に数箇所 ある。ここにいる限りは「どこの国にも入国してない」つまり空の上を 飛んでいるのと同じ状態。1週間ぐらい Changiで過ごして帰国したら 成田の入管はねちねちと「どこ行ってたんだ？」と聞きそうな気がしない でもない。
少なくとも2006年に限っていえば「世界一」って のは正しいようだ。

Singapore Changi Airport is named as the winner of the prestigious "Airport of the Year" title for 2006
The preparation for the move to Ireland does not proceed
as I expected (or as I wished). Things to be done keep arising as
I stay here and they cause another delay.
I heard bad news last weekend; the property in which I was most
interested had been taken by somebody else and no longer avaiable.
Very disappointed. It's like scratching my foot over the shoes
because thigs I can do from here are quite limited.
What I can do is to see the pictures I took during the last trip to heal my irritated soul.. This picture was taken at the sea front of Howth. My camera had a problem with its shutter and could not focus. This celtic cross was built for the people who lost thier lives in the sea no matter the reasons are (a message like this was written on the base of the cross).
With Dr Chris Bleakley at Aya Restaurant and Sushi Bar & Deli, in Dublin, Ireland. He is my research partner and I will be staying at UCD from June to work with him and his students on a project in Low power Wireless Sensor Network.

My visit to UCD is (almost) over.
These guys will be my colleagues at UCD from June.
Yesterday, there was no event or tasks to be done so I took a
short excursion to Howth. It is about 35min ride by DART and
seemed a popular place to go for people living in the greater
Dublin area on a weekend.
The conference is over today and we enjoyed the last lunch.
I talked mostly with a guy from Romania who is not in
this picture as he took this picture !
いわゆるBanquetってやつで、港の近くのレストランへ。
やはりシーフードがメイン。ただ料理と料理の間があくので
テーブルで「これが最後なのかな？」などという会話が
何度か交わされることに。
The conference,
Computing Frontiers 06 has
just begun today. Today, there are only
tutorials and no regular paper presentations.
My presentation is on May 4.
Naplesというのはナポリの英語つづり。
乗り継ぎのためロンドンで4時間、 そこから2時間あまりのフライト。 到着後バス(3Euro)で写真の港に。 日本人観光客のツアーがたくさんいる。 1時間の待ち合わせの後、1時間の航海。 最終的に日本*についたのは日本の5/2午前2時過ぎ。 ということは成田を出てから31時間以上かけた 移動だったことになる。

It's my first to be at BKK since 1995
(if my memory is correct).
郡山駅構内にて購入。
普通のご飯とキノコ＆クリの炊き込みご飯に、色んなおかずが
入っているのはいいが1000円(税込み)はちょっと高いような気が。
実際時間があれば一度駅から出てコンビニで買った方が同じ値段で
良いものが買えるのだが...

Finally, I've arrived at a hotel near the Narita Airport.
I was scared of congestion of trains because now it's in the middle of so-called golden week. However, both ban-etsu-saisen and tohoku-shinkansen were not crowded at all. Only five or six passengers in a car on the ban-etsu-saisen and overall occupancy rate of the tohoku shinkansen (from koriyama to tokyo) was around 30% (very very rough estimate). so, i could take three seats in a row. However, when I got off the bullet train, i saw lots of people waiting for the train...
I hope I would take a good seat (or 'nice' passengers around me) on my flight tomorrow (or wish it'd be upgraded..)
ノドの腫れも大分ひいたような感覚だったので、後は休養すればいいや、と
いう気になっていたが、とりあえず近所の医者に(診察時間終了間際に)
行き、薬をもらう。内科とともに小児科をやっているため、袋をとめるシールが
動物だったりする。
カゼひいて、のどが痛いのでクスリなんぞを飲んでいる。
扁桃腺の腫れで呼吸が妨げられ、息苦しくなって目が覚める。
クスリも眠くなる成分が入っている。
明日から出かける予定なのだが。
